Get the boat ready...

The time has finally arrived to get the boat ready if you haven't done so already! The lakes are opening fast!!

Irving opened up, as well as many smaller lakes in the area: Big & Little Bass, Beltrami, Movil, Long and others. Soon the crappies will be headed for their spring time haunts if they aren't there already. Bemidji looks to be a few more days away, with many guessing we'll see ice off early next week.

Many anglers have been taking advantage of the nice weather and have been busy soaking crawlers on the Rainy River for sturgeon. We have heard of some absolute tankers being caught in that 70" range. Some have had great success with 15+ fish days, while others have struggled to get a fish in the boat. Don't hesitate to move around & try different holes, depths, current seams, or areas. For those of you still dinosaur hunting, we're still fully stocked with flats & half flats of crawlers for this weekend.

We want to wish everyone the best of luck that are headed up to fish the Sportsman's Lodge Sturgeon Tourney! Stop on by & we'll get you all geared up.

As our thoughts turn to perch & panfish for the next week here close to home before the walleye opener, we're fully stocked & prepared with crappie minnows, fatheads, waxies & crawlers.

I used to love fishing. But ever since I start transitioning to a cruelty free diet, I became less interested in any activity that involves hurting animals. I still miss fishing though. I miss my friends and I appreciate the skills and techniques of fishing enthusiasts. I did a little soul searching and I realized what I really miss is just being in a boat with friends and enjoying the sound of the waves. It's not really fishing that I miss. In fact I remember always feeling sorry for my catch.

I am afraid of being in the waters. This is why when I visit a nice beach or a lake, I always make sure I can get there on land travel. I am afraid of riding boats, no matter how big or small these boats can get. The smaller boats can easily get thrown away by large waves. The larget boats are never unsinkable. They will even take you down with them when they sink. It's really scary. I sometimes wish I have gills but then I though I will be more afraid if I am under the water than when I am above.

Sometimes you don't even need to have your own kid to appreciate all the others. I have known people who don't have kids but they treat children better than those who have their own. Maturity is when you put others who needed more and don't have the capacity to be independent on top of your priorities. If they need it more, you give it to them. It doesn't matter anymore if you are blood related or not. If you love children, you love everyone, not just your own.
